SACRAMENTO — California Attorney General Rob Bonta today issued the following statement highlighting critical public safety investments in Governor Newsom’s 2023-24 revised state budget proposal. The Governor’s budget revision maintains and adds key investments supported by the California Department of Justice (DOJ) to improve public safety and support California’s diverse communities. If approved by the Legislature, the revised budget supports DOJ to continue efforts to protect the rights of Californians and public safety, including ongoing investments for DOJ’s Fentanyl Enforcement Program and partnership for enforcement of state housing laws.
“Despite a deficit, California’s prudent planning has allowed the Governor to advance a resilient budget that maintains critical public safety investments,” said Attorney General Bonta. “I thank the Governor for continuing to prioritize public safety and for working with the California Department of Justice to enact critical investments in programs and services that will protect California families. I urge the Legislature to approve this package of funding priorities to help keep Californians safe.”
