The Office of Native American Affairs (ONAA) at the Office of the Attorney General, California Department of Justice (DOJ), is facilitating a first-of-its-kind seminar called, “BEING PREPARED Together: Developing a Tribal Community Response Plan for MMIP and Human Trafficking.” This is an interactive seminar that is being developed in coordination and collaboration with California Native American Tribes.
“BEING PREPARED Together: Developing a Tribal Community Response Plan for MMIP and Human Trafficking,” provides each of the invited entities (tribal governments, local, state, federal justice agencies, and community organizations) an opportunity to learn more about how to begin the framework for developing a community response plan that can help address the crisis of MMIP and human trafficking occurring in their specific region. This is a critical public safety event for tribal communities aiming to elevate their response on what to do if a tribal citizen goes missing (on or off of the reservation), how to identify if a tribal citizen may be a victim of human trafficking, and how to determine which resources may be the most appropriate for their tribal citizens who have been a victim of a violent crime. The seminar culminates in each of the participating tribal governments being supported in creating a response plan that is tailored to their individual and unique tribal government’s needs.
